FAS meeting

The Michigan FAS taskforce was pretty good. i found out alot about what people in different counties in Michigan are doing reguarding FAS. i also got to talk and tell alittle of my story. i also passed out my cards. I got meet alot of people. I had one person even buy one of my rings. So this is part of my self-advocating. I am pretty excited that idea is becoming a reality. I owe a big thanks to Rob and God. for helping make it all possible

a great opportunity

This wednesday I get the unique opportunity to go to a state taskforce meeting in Lansing with my friend Rob. The state taskforce is for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. so there will be people there from all over Michigan. I will beable to talk about my life and what was like growing up with FAS. and I am also going to talk about being a self-advocate, but spreading the word about FAS through my jewelry. so this should be kind of fun. I will let you know how is goes. But for now. I have made four bracelets. and plan on making more this week. Here is what I have made so far. the one on the top I just finished and I call it 'school of goldfish" Yes i do name some of the jewelry i make by the way they look to me.

birthday was great.

Well my birthday was made pretty special. At work I get a gift from my boss and his wife. and they made a sign that said "Say Happy Birthday to Erin, who is turning 25" and put it up in front of the registers. I don't know if i have told you or not, b ut i work at a greenhouse and I do carry-out. So alot of the costumers said happy birthday to me. So it made my work day pretty fun. then after work I had an open house birthday party. not everyone I invited was able to come but alot of them did come. Which was fun. So this week i had no time to work on my bracelets or rings. but I did have a goal for this coming week. I will get at least two bracelets finitshed.
Well my friend Rob who also had FAS just got back from a FAS conference in Arizona. and he handed out alot my cards with a story about me and my jewelry. He said alot of people are interested in buying some of my jewelry. So I really so get working on it. Thanks everyone for your support. this is for a good cause.

25....almost

ok so i had this goal for this week, to make 6 bracelets. Well I don't think that is going to happen as much as I work on finishing a few that i started. I have been busy getting ready for my party friday, and working. I did work on one bracelet today alittle. I guess my new goal is to finish the one i am working on by next week friday. i found out from my friend who is in arizona right now for a FAS conference that he handed out some of my cards to the people there. and they like my idea and the story. so i need to get working on those bracelets and rings. I love making jewelry but my left wrist starts to hurt after a while. I found out the other day that i have Madelungs deformity. its where the the ulna grows faster then the radius( the two bones in your arm. and the ulna is sticking out and causing pain. so i where a brace on my hand most of the time. (especially when i am at work.) People with FAS are known to have joint problems and this is one of mine. the doc doesn't want to do surgery yet. but I kind of just want the surgery to fix it, instead of monkeying around with different splints. But we will see what is going to happen next.

a goal for the week.

My goal for this week is to make at least 6 bracelets. I already made one and I am working on another. So you can say that i have about 4 and a half more to make. Plus at the end of the week its my birthday. and i am having a party. so we are hoping to get these bracelets accopolished between working and getting the house cleaned. Its a goal and i think I can do it. i will have oics of the new bracelets up as so as i get them done.

Today i brought some of the jewelry i made to a group I volunteer at, at my church. and I sold all the bracelets I made,(whcih wasn't many, kind of like 4) and a ring. and i handed out some of my cards with a story on it about me. I definitly stirred interest tonight. So i need to get working on more bracelets and finish the 2 i have started. but its kind of hard when i work almost everyday. this is kind of exciting, but kind of scary too. I never would have thought that this could be possible.

getting started

well hello

This is my new blog. and its about well...me doing beadwork and making a difference in the world. And speaking out about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and what its like living with it. And I have always wanted to make things and sell them and have the money I make go to a good cause. I am starting to make beaded jewelry(rings, bracelets, necklaces) and in my jewelry there is going to be one or more of the worng colored bead to show I am not perfect. So the money i make selling this jewelry is going to NOFAS.(National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) an organization that is helping to prevent FAS buy helping get the words out, and having conferences all over the US. I am just helping them out, but helping myself. Which feels really good. So here is a few of the bracelets and rings I have made so far. my friend has made me some cards with some of my info on it and I have been handing it out for friends, and co-workers. and funny thing is I have struck interest and now some of them want to buy my jewelry. WOW! I am very surprised.
